DRY Type Batteries
Dry type batteries which are one of the basic components of uninterruptable
power supplies are mostly being used in telecommunication, alarm and security
systems, wind energy systems, solar energy systems, defense industry, battery
chargers… etc. The demand for batteries will grow by time as the need towards
the use of recycable energy sources increases.
In general, especially when electricity /energy break occurs, the battery steps
in and ensures the user not to feel this break or the battery allows
the user to be able to switch off it’s electronic apparels in safety,
if this energy break lasts longer than expected.
Even tough they might function without any problem, the perfectly designed UPS
systems also require this battery replacement. Battery lifespan, which is one of
the less evident concepts in this issue, becomes a complaint subject due to the
high expectations regarding this specification. Lead acid batteries are now
being used in nearly all UPS type
apparels.
Discharge Depth :
The lifespan of a lead acid battery will decline; if
it is getting to be used with 80-90% discharge of it’s total capacity.To
prevent this situation,you should firstly precise the energy need level and
determine your battery capacity above this necessity.
Environmental Conditions : The surrounding temperature is one of the most
determining factor for battery’s lifespan.The lifespans of batteries which
work below or above 20-25 °C will seriously decline.
Circle Number : Battery lifespan is limited with a precised charge-discharge
number.This number is approximately around 1000 times and may vary from one
model to another. The battery lifespans will decline when electricity breaks
down and the batteries take on/off action so often.
Expiry Date.Every battery has an expiry date and the lifespan period starts within
the day the battery is manufactured in the factory. Beacuse the inner
structures of the batteries are chemical,the reactions start within the
production day, and even if they are used in optimum,ideal conditions as if
they are charged all time;their capacity will decrease and become
a waste.
Storage
: When the
batteries are stored for a long while, they require to be charged every 3-6
months. Otherwise the sulfation will ocur due to the iner reactions hence
the anode and cathode plates will be out of use.
Estimated Battery
Lifespan :
At present; dry type batteries should be given 2 years of warranty cover.
Often this warranty notion is confused with a different subject. Dry type
batteries are being produced with 3-5 years, 5 years, 10 years or even 10+
years lifespan estimation. These lifespan estimations lead us to the
information which is in optimum conditions these batteries will confront
this estimated lifespan period.
